  • Have you heard of Banksy before reading these materials for class?

  • If so, what do you think of his work? If not, would you like to know more about him?
Yes. I think his work is a powerful tool of the people used to question those in power and question structures. Bansky takes real issues of real people and highlights them in large public audiences.

  • What do you think of the "Balloon Girl / Love is in the Bin" "incident"  at Sotheby's?
Banksy is certainly an attention grabber and this incident certainly shocked a large audience. Banky forces the public to question his audience, buyers, art collecting, and the "fine art" world.

  • What are your thoughts on the references/memes based on this work?
McDonalds and businesses are certainly using this platform to grab attention and feed off the publicity. While some are using it as a form of defamation towards politicians, others are just using it for fun and meaninglessness. The more memes that are created, spread, and looked at the more attention and awareness Banksy's incident will receive and the more people will question the fine art world itself.

  • How would/could you use Banksy's artworks in your art classroom?
The work of Banksy could be used to discuss and investigate recontextualization. In addition, Banskys work could be used to explore audiences/ viewers and hidden messages.
